Vernon Memorial Cardiac Rehabilitation Program Holds Patient Reunion

The 2007 HEART Center celebration was held Thursday, November 8th, in the Conference Center of the Viroqua Area Medical Office Building. Over 160 cardiopulmonary rehab graduates and guests attended the event. Bonnie Anderson, MS, Manager of the Cardiopulmonary Diagnostics and Rehabilitation Department at Vernon Memorial Healthcare, said the event is designed to provide an opportunity for patients to renew friendships, celebrate successes, and have a good time! “We are proud of the fact that local and area residents selected us to provide a portion of their healthcare here in our community hospital. It has been and continues to be an honor for us to assist local families,” said Anderson.

Three HEART Awards were presented. Keith Mills of Viroqua and Barbara Murphy of Westby were named the King and Queen of Hearts, respectively. These awards were presented to individuals who adopt and are committed to following a heart healthy lifestyle, get lots of exercise, eat right, maintain a healthy weight and good lipid levels and are non- smokers.

The Friend Of Heart Award is presented to an individual, family or business that has gone “above and beyond” in assisting VMH in providing comprehensive, compassionate care to cardiac patients and their families. This assistance may take the form of service, expertise, or financial donations. The Norskedalen Trio was named this year’s recipient for providing the musical entertainment at the HEART Center Celebration each year.

Anderson thanked area businesses for their generous door prize donations, Chef Amy Jacobson and staff of The Grille for catering the food, and VMH volunteers for their assistance at the event.
