RESPIRATORY THERAPY
WHAT IS A RESPIRATORY THERAPIST? A Respiratory Therapist assists physicians with the diagnosis and treatment of patients with respiratory disorders such as COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), Asthma, Chronic Bronchitis, CHF and Pneumonia.

SERVICES PROVIDED Services offered by the Respiratory Therapy Department at Vernon Memorial Hospital include: oxygen administration, aerosol and humidity therapy, incentive spirometry, MDI instruction, pulmonary function testing, home oxygen evaluations, HHN for home and airway management.
In addition to providing respiratory services, the department is also trained in urine/drug and breath-alchohol collection for the DOT.
An Asthma Education program is offered 2 times/year.

STAFFING The Respiratory Therapy Department at Vernon Memorial Hospital is located on the 2nd floor of the hospital. It is staffed from 7AM-8PM Monday-Friday and 7AM-3PM on Saturday and Sunday. Although RT is not in-house 24 hours/day, Nursing provides limited services after hours. RT staff are available if needed after hours.
