General Surgery

Vernon Memorial Healthcare combines state-of-the-art equipment and techniques with a pleasant, personal, caring environment to help patients and families through both minor and complex procedures.

The VMH Surgery Center has an annual caseload of more than 570 inpatient operative procedures each performed by expert surgeons and anesthetists, and a specially-trained, experienced team of nurses, nursing assistants, surgical technicians and dedicated support staff. Collaboration with support staff - such as imaging, lab, and respiratory therapy - helps us provide the best care possible. Our surgical site infection rate is better than national levels.

The following are some of our busiest surgical specialty areas:

  • Caesarean sections
  • Hernia repair
  • Hiatal hernia repair
  • Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy (gall bladder removal)
  • Urology
  • Colon resection
  • Hemorrhoid repair
  • Breast biopsies
  • Vascular procedures

Patient-Focused Surgery and Recovery

Patients are encouraged to ask questions about any part of their care. All patients receive instructions about their surgical procedure, how they will be cared for during the day and what to expect once they return home, including detailed home care instructions. Even after returning home, personnel are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to respond to concerns or questions.
