About
Joining Vernon Health August 2026!

Dr Rafiq is from and grew up in Northern California where she did her undergraduate studies.
She obtained her Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine from Kent State University College of
Podiatric Medicine in Ohio. She then completed her residency in Madison, Wisconsin at the
Department of Veterans Affairs. It was there her professional and surgical skills were
strengthened in wound care, elective and emergent cases including but not limited to bunions,
hammertoes and ingrowing toenail procedures.

Dr. Rafiq proceeded to further her education by completing a fellowship in foot and ankle
surgery with Village Podiatry at Emory Midtown University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. During
this fellowship she reinforced her foundation of surgical skills and gained advanced surgical
training with a strong emphasis on wound care, limb salvage and minimally invasive surgery.

In her spare time, Dr. Rafiq enjoys being outdoors and spending time with her family and dogs.

Background
I grew up in Northern California, specifically in the Central Valley, where my family still lives and where I love to visit whenever I can.

Family
I am married to my husband, Blake, whom I met while living in Wisconsin.

Professional Experience
I obtained my Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine from Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine in Ohio. I then completed my residency training in Madison, Wisconsin at the Department of Veterans Affairs. After residency, I pursued advanced fellowship training with Village Podiatry at Emory Midtown University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.

What inspired you to pursue this specific field or profession?
I love being able to help people heal and restore an important part of their body, whether through conservative treatment options or surgical intervention. Helping patients regain mobility and improve their quality of life is incredibly rewarding.

What are your areas of expertise or specialization?
My areas of expertise include wound care, limb salvage, and minimally invasive surgery, which were emphasized throughout my fellowship training.

Do you have any certifications, licenses, or professional memberships related to your practice?
I am board certified by the American Board of Podiatric Medicine (ABPM) and board qualified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery (ABFAS). I am also licensed to practice in the state of Wisconsin.

What is your treatment philosophy or approach when working with clients/patients?
I treat my patients the same way I would treat my own family. I believe in starting with conservative treatment options whenever possible and progressing to more advanced interventions only when necessary.

Do you utilize any specific therapeutic techniques or modalities in your practice?
I utilize ultrasound technology both diagnostically and therapeutically, including performing ultrasound-guided injections to improve precision and patient outcomes.

Are there any particular populations or issues that you have a special interest in or focus on?
I enjoy all aspects of podiatry, but I have a special interest in treating plantar fasciitis, ingrown toenails, and wound care patients.

What do you enjoy most about your work or the impact you can make on your clients’/patients’ lives?
I find the greatest fulfillment in restoring a patient’s ability to walk without pain. Whether it’s through a routine procedure or a more complex treatment plan, knowing that my work directly impacts a patient’s independence and quality of life motivates me to provide the best care possible.
