Dr. Joel Charles is a dedicated family medicine doctor who practices at the Kickapoo Valley Medical Clinic, which is part of Vernon Memorial Healthcare. He joined the clinic in 2018, inspired by his father-in-law, Tim Devitt, who was the first doctor at the clinic. Dr. Charles has a broad range of interests, including preventive health and wellbeing, evidence-based ways to maximize longevity and healthspan, psychiatric care, pediatrics, sports medicine and fitness, and musculoskeletal issues. He serves as the Medical Director of KVMC. He takes hospital call at VMH in Viroqua. In this role, Dr. Charles collaborates to set and review clinic policy, and he is responsible for maintaining quality clinic operations.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Charles is involved in volunteer and public health service activities throughout the community and surrounding areas. He is the board chair and co-founder of Healthy Climate Wisconsin, a group which empowers health professionals to advocate for Wisconsinites’ health through clean energy solutions. He also serves on the board of the Wisconsin Medical Society and the Wisconsin Medical Society Foundation.
