Respiratory Therapy

The VMH Respiratory Therapy Department specializes in the assessment and treatment of respiratory and cardiovascular diseases including asthma, bronchitis, emphysema, pneumonia, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), heart attacks and strokes. Respiratory therapists are skilled in airway management, mechanical ventilation, and blood samples pertaining to ventilation. They assist in medical emergencies and complications, which may occur during the birth of a newborn. The Respiratory Therapy Department provides oxygen administration, aerosol and humidity therapy, incentive spirometry, inhaler instructions, home nebulizer set ups, home oxygen set ups, pulmonary function testing and non-invasive ventilation. Respiratory Therapy also performs Department of Transporation (DOT) and non-DOT drug and alcohol testing.
